Wet Ink

Then the LORD God formed a man out of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man becomes a living being.*

Pretty fantastic beginning!

But, it didn’t take man long to rebel against his creator. Man began to create his own gods, an enterprise that continues today. He creates his god out of the dust of philosophical remixes and breathes into them the hot air of his personal opinions. His god, however, does not become a living god, but rather a leaky air mattress that requires frequent pumping up with more hot air in order to get any momentary comfort from it.

The idea, still unproven although widely embraced, that humans evolved apart from a personal, creating God is convenient, even necessary. Without this philosophical, pseudo-scientific innovation we would find ourselves dogged by that nasty ultimate purpose question. With it we are set free to carve out our own individual purposes to the extent possible within the unavoidable limitations that others in the human tribe place upon us. As long as “life IS good” you might be able to drown out the nagging voice calling out the lie.
